Mount Kailash, located 1,300 kilometers west of Tibet and with an elevation of 6,656 meters, is one of the world's most sacred mountains. It is regarded as the ultimate spiritual destination of Bön, Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism. The road to Kailash is well paved. Every year, a large number of pilgrims come from all parts of the world to pray at the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. You may spend 13 to 15 days to complete a trekking tour starting from Lhasa to Everest to Kalaish, then return to Lhasa or overland to Kathmandu. The 52 kilometer trek around Kailash usually takes 2 to 3 days to complete for most visitors. The best time to come will be April, May, September and October with mild temperatures and less rain and snow. A Tibet Travel Permit AND Alien Travel Permit are both required for the Kailash tour.
